I'm not sure what would be going on here. I can't reproduce the issue
on my machine.
Does it happen with any of the other authentication dialogs?
(System->Administration->Authorizations or System->Administration->Users and
Groups
are possible test cases).
When you say "If I click authenticate and then close the window, the applet
works fine."
you mean that you click the "Authenticate" button and it doesn't close, and
then you
click the "x" in the top right, or the cancel button?
