It seems that the problem is related to the way Ubuntu is handling the open/close button on the AcerTimeline. If I use this to open the drive the media is not mounted or not mounted properly in order to be read. However, I was given a fix (which I have posted on the Ubuntu forums) which is a workaround for this. For opening the drive, I have been using the terminal with the command "eject cdrom" (without the quotes). Furthermore, recently I noticed, on the list of updates, a number related to glstreamer. Since then everything has been working perfectly. In order to reproduce the problem I have just tried to open the drive from the button (instead of the terminal) and noticed that the media is not mounted. It seems that the problem is therefore related to both the hardware handling in Ubuntu, but also to whatever the status of glstreamer was at the time of reporting the bug.
