some more information

on the same system described above, doing additional things removes the
warning:

$ echo 'hwcap 0 nosegneg' | sudo tee -a /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libc6-xen.conf
$ sudo ldconfig
$ sudo apt-get --purge remove libc6-i686

So it appears we can find a solution, but I think at the moment every
thing I see has negative effects on non-xen systems.
