Well no joy with my existing set up - initially the modem is detected but won't initialize then after that, any further attempts, result in an unable to open modem (using kppp) I will try again later to give you the result of apport-collect - initially I did not select 'change anything' and now it does not believe that I logged off so I can't try again! sorry
