Did a reboot and there was no delay this time. Also checked the last filesystem check time (using tune2fs -l ) and it appears there was a check during the boot that took ages. I guess this may have been triggered by whatever went wrong when I used the 0.2.0~boot1 version of mountall.
So I guess my part of the bug is not an issue, apart from expecting some output when a filesystem check is happening - the display was in text mode by this point.
