I too am suffering from this issue. I have a Huawei 220 modem.
This isssue did not occur on the 8.x version of Ubuntu from which I upgraded yesterday, to 9.04 For me the machine unfreezes after a while (at least 30 seconds, probably more like 4-5 minutes) A running top shows a load average of 28+ after the freeze, and I have seen both hald and frontend processes fleeing the top of top after the freeze. kernel version: 2.6.28-15-generic Graphics Chip Mfgr: ATI Graphics Chip Model: Radeon HD 3200 (onboard) File System Type for /: ext3 Is this problem on a Laptop: no Laptop mfgr: n/a Laptop model: n/a Is this problem on a Desktop: yes Desktop mobo mfgr: Gigabyte Desktop mobo model: GA-MA78GM-S2H using wireless: not wifi ethernet card driver: - using wired: no, but onboard card installed ethernet card driver: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
