@WubiNeophyte :
Thanks for the work done here , I went through the list of the apps .

What you have listed are several problems , which will surely confound an
average user. These do need to be dealt with.
But they are not really duplicate listing of the apps , while some are bound to
cause confusion , most of the apps have a different name within the brackets
which is not surely enough.

KDE/gnome/qt apps , hence multiple are present for each environment. [how do we
deal with these? and not confuse the user]
-Back In Time
-GDebi Package Installer
-Content Filter
-Hardware Drivers
-Language Support
-Licq
-Mailody
-System Monitor
-USB Startup Disk Creator
-Qalculate

KDE apps with different packages probably for the same app or is the second
package for gnome , [same category as above]?
-KImageMapEditor
-KLinkStatus
-KPlato
-KPresenter
-KSpread
-KXSLDbg

additional -data packages [why do these have to bother user , maybe we can
hide them?]
-KOffice
-Krita
-KWord

2 different packages but seem to be doing the same work only difference is the
package name within the brackets
-Xabacus
-PCP Charts

Totally different apps with the same name , only difference is the package name
within the brackets.
-Chess
-Image Viewer
-Terminal
-Mines

-Gnu Octave is just multiple versions as indicated within the brackets
not a dup per-se.

I'd suggest you open separate bugs for each of the issues.

OTOH , I'v subscribed *Matthew Paul Thomas* , the lead designer of the
software center. Such issues are the kind of bugs he is always looking
out for and is interested in fixing/solving.
