I have cleaned up the patch a little bit, so that it is better review- able. I also included several fixes for possible uninitialized variables.
The patch does not solve all the problems, because the (gtk2wsstdctrls.pp:513) remains and is part of lazarus? One remark thou: as the package in my PPA in Karmic also builds against the latest version of lazarus (although a different version of fpc), it seems to me that the problem is not in lazarus, but instead in the gtk library, that got updated several days ago.
