Same problem for me I believe. The splash screen shows up, but once Live CD finishes, at the point where you would see Gnome starting up the screen goes blank. I am guessing this is because the refresh frequency is set too high again.
Selecting śafe vga mode' from the startup prompt does not help. Will now try the vga=791 kernel option as above to confirm.
