I apologize, I mistyped. The upgrade was Karmic to Lucid not Jaunty to Lucid.
My computer came with Intrepid. OpenOffice.org was fine on the Intrepid to
Jaunty upgrade, and the Jaunty to Karmic upgrade. It was the Karmic to Lucid
upgrade that broke.

I'm sorry for my error.

** Changed in: openoffice.org (Ubuntu)
       Status: Invalid => New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

  The package will not upgrade. Very simple. I did not have a custom
  version installed from another source (like getdeb, for example) it was
  a stock upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty which worked perfectly. The
- Jaunty to Lucid upgrade caused problems in the packages openoffice.org-
- core and openoffice.org-voikko (which will be reported seperately). They
- were not upgraded.
+ upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic also worked properly. The Karmic to Lucid
+ upgrade caused problems in the packages openoffice.org-core and
+ openoffice.org-voikko (which will be reported seperately). They were not
+ upgraded.

  Earlier in the upgrade a mention was made of "conflicting packages" but
  I was not prompted to take any action or make a report at that point.
  Later the following error:

  <code>Traceback (most recent call last):
-   File "/usr/lib/python2.6/logging/__init__.py" line 792, in emit
-     self.flush()

  I am not sure what this error means myself but it could be useful.
