@ODDie If you set nautilus (the file browser) to open items with double clicks instead of single click, you can open the Properties of the files with a synthetic right click without opening the file. You can find the corresponding settings in the Preferences of any file browser window.
Concerning the links in the browsers: you can open them in a new tab with a left click while holding down the ctrl modifier. If you are also using onboard, I would suggest to use one of the full keyboard layouts.
