Here is what I did:
skarle...@ubuntu-gateway:~$ echo autospawn = no >> ~/.pulse/client.conf
skarle...@ubuntu-gateway:~$ killall pulseaudio
pulseaudio: no process found
skarle...@ubuntu-gateway:~$ LANG=C pulseaudio -vvvv > ~/pulseverbose.log 2>&1
skarle...@ubuntu-gateway:~$ 

Apparently, pulseaudio does not start as I keep getting the following error:
Failed to open module "module-hal-detect": file not found

Please find attached the log.
