More digging... looks like this may be network related... not sure exactly what yet, but it seems that when the system boots and loads the tg3 driver, a lot of errors are thrown. Removing and reinstalling the tg3 driver brings up the card. Prior to bouncing the driver, the link is not detected on the card and no IP is ever requested.
