Thanks Wayne. I have just found bug 735431, which looks like it has the same root cause which is thought to be fixed by the patch "ath9k: Fix kernel panic in AR2427" (which is in stable since 2.6.38.3).
Also, a v2.6.38.4 based Natty kernel seems to be in pre-proposed[1]. That's a real ubuntu kernel unlike the upstream kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ . Could you test it? I think this would be the kernel to recommend for now. Based on [2] it might hit natty-proposed after release and natty-updates around May 20th. But that is just my wild guess, I do hope it is sooner.
