Ah -- if you go to 'About This Mac', you can see the firmware that was last installed, and it was indeed the one for the 5,3 -- so I reckon I'll be good to go with that. I might leave it for the weekend, though -- I can still boot, even if it's a PITA, and I have to work. I'll report how I get on, though. Thanks very much for the advice! :)
