well there *is* the kernel patch https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/8/22/155,
which doesn't seem to be upstream yet.

Hard to believe anything is doing clone(CLONE_NEWNET) during boot
(though not impossible), but I wonder if udevd stopping reading events
could trigger this.
