Absolutely, Roman.
Thanks Rodney, but I still have a full Gnome desktop as well.
So what it did was getting a measly 162 kB and now everything is okay. Which
makes it even more look like a bug. All this ought not happen. Aunty Tilly is
not coming here, reporting the bug, and doing things on the command line. This
is not personal, but that the installer is getting stuck must simply not happen
if only ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk is missing. And if it is, it ought to be
installed. My 2 sen.

These were missing:
$  sudo apt-get install ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  python-aptdaemon.gtkwidgets python-ubuntuone-control-panel python-vte
  ubuntuone-control-panel
Recommended packages:
  ubuntuone-control-panel-gui
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  python-aptdaemon.gtkwidgets python-ubuntuone-control-panel python-vte
  ubuntuone-control-panel ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk
0 upgraded, 5 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 162 kB of archives.
After this operation, 1,774 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y

and then it works!
