Douglas, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number> Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Summary changed: - kernel oops due to lirc using mythbuntu 10.10 beta + BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000060; RIP: 0010:[<ffffffffa00a50d6>] [<ffffffffa00a50d6>] store_protocols+0xa6/0x3b0 [ir_core] ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Attachment removed: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679763/+files/AcpiTables.txt ** Attachment removed: "AlsaDevices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679764/+files/AlsaDevices.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679766/+files/BootDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.0.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679768/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.0.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Amixer.values.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679767/+files/Card0.Amixer.values.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.1.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679769/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.1.txt ** Attachment removed: "AplayDevices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679765/+files/AplayDevices.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.2.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679770/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.2.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.3.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679771/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.3.txt ** Attachment removed: "CurrentDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679772/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lspci.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679773/+files/Lspci.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lsusb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679774/+files/Lsusb.txt ** Attachment removed: "PciMultimedia.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679775/+files/PciMultimedia.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcCpuinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679776/+files/ProcCpuinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcInterrupts.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679777/+files/ProcInterrupts.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcModules.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679778/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevDb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679779/+files/UdevDb.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679780/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "UserAsoundrc.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679781/+files/UserAsoundrc.txt ** Attachment removed: "WifiSyslog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+attachment/1679782/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** Tags removed: apport-collected ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/642517 Title: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000060; RIP: 0010:[<ffffffffa00a50d6>] [<ffffffffa00a50d6>] store_protocols+0xa6/0x3b0 [ir_core] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
