It seems to be related to the fact that I have a long connection between
the USB MCE Remote control receiver and my PC.

This goes from a MCE Remote receiver USB to cat7 some 10m long and then at the
other end, cat7 to USB to the PC USB port
Note:
(1) The cat7 is shielded and is grounded at the PC end only to prevent a ground
loop.
(2) I have added ferrite suppressors clamped around the cable at either end.
(3) The "USB to ethernet" and the "ethernet to USB" coverters as simple balun
based ones with no electronics in them.

This issue seems to be that I get messages in the log (per the beginning on my
post): port 1 disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling...
Sometimes if I get this message, but without a kernel Oops, the port stops
working and I suspect is not re-enabled at all.

Happy to provide whatever debug information is required.
Cheers
Douglas.
