Issue for me as well on Precise, but I think the focus is misplaced...

The very same NVidia proprietary drivers (and hardware setup) on Lucid
LTS cause no shutdown problems, but they do in Precise. Also nouveau is
not working for my setup so have to use the proprietary drivers.

Desktop hardware: 
Intel C2D E7200 || Intel DG33FB mobo || 4 GB RAM || 64 bit Lucid/ Precise 
Desktops || WD Caviar Black 1TB, Green 2TB; Corsair Force 3 60GB || Dell U2412M 
|| Palit Sonic GT 240 (OC'd NVidia card)

Installed nvidia-current from repos (295.40).
