It looks like the people in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1094800 have just identified the specific patches that broke the suspend. From the text descriptions of those patches, which specifically address suspend to RAM issues, it seems to me highly likely that the problem area is identified.
