more detail. When Iook for help, all seem to be for dual boot, windows and Ubuntu. Mine is for ONLY Ubuntu. New MB, and 16GB memory. ASUS Rampage IV Formula. 5 hard drives from the prior Ubuntu pc with older MB. My boot drive then was Velociraptor 1TB drive, with ubuntu 'all' on that drive. the other 4 drives are data only.
New is a Samsung 830 SSD 265GB. From hints related to SSD, I chose to implement this: SS830 / [root] ss830 [whatever is needed for boot] 1TBVelociraptor /home and swap So whenever I ran the install from whichever dvd I tried (original Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 12.10, and just now the 12.10 safe UEFI) the install finished ok, but upon reboot, I got the error that says the boot information cannot be found. I tried using the 'Boot Repair' tool and it seemed to worked each time, but gave these 'status codes', for which I don't know how to interpret: http://paste.ubuntu.com/ 156351 then I tried another time to fix via the dvd for 12.10 uefi and got /151701 tried one more time to fix and got /1561717 I gave up the 'split' approach. I am now dedicating the SSD ONLY to the install, just beginning. It takes hours for the install to finish because of the b*S downloading. after this is done, and if I can reboot, I will do updates, which will give me a new Linux kernal. If I can reboot from that, then I will see about moving /home to the 1TB Velociraptor. I don't know how to do this, but perhaps it will be easier to do than the crap I have been fighting. I left Windows because of all this kind of crap. It looks like MS found a way to screw us. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102079 Title: install 12.04 to ssd fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1102079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
