Though I don't have any software that requires a whitelist that I
personally use (and work is Windows-only), I still feel that removing
the whitelist is a step backwards.

minimal amount of code (I've heard 55 LOC), and provides more than its
weight in functionality.

Please, for the sake of corporate users (ex: Ed Guenter), reconsider.
