I installed the mainline kernel as you suggested:

When I boot the system freezes but I can't see the kernel crash log due
ot the violet Ubuntu screen.
When I boot with "ivtv.blacklist=yes" the boot completes and the system
starts. So, I need to add the tag 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.
