Sorry, I meant /etc/pam.d/common-session (as in my first question).
Installed packages are alright. Do you get a choice "Register user
sessions in the systemd control group hierarchy" in the dialog when you
run
sudo pam-auth-update --force
? Please make sure that this is enabled.
