Using Ubuntu Gutsy tribe 4, I have nowI made these three attempts to
boot:

1. Use F6-key to boot with break=top
2. Inside BusyBox, enter "modprobe ata_piix" and then "exit"
3. Boot continues and then returns to BusyBox; booting failed.

1. Use F6-key to boot with break=top
2. Inside BusyBox, enter "modprobe pata_mpiix" and then "exit"
3. Boot continues and then returns to BusyBox; booting failed.

1. Use F6-key to boot with break=top
2. Inside BusyBox, enter "modprobe pata_oldpiix" and then "exit"
3. Boot continues and then returns to BusyBox; booting failed.

I also tried to boot with break=top and the modprobe all three of them,
which also failed.

But then I googled around a little bit for the three module names you
gave me, and I found a developer check-in mail where a guy named "Ben
Collins" had signed-off on a change relating to "piix" something. I
fired off to this guy and he recommended that I try to boot with
"all_generic_ide" as a boot option; and believe it or not but that
worked perfectly. I never saw BuxyBox once and it booted right into
X.org which nice resolution and everything. Again, as you suggested
above the new X.org version in Gutsy seems to have better support for my
video drivers (GMA X31000). After carefully looking at some of the gnome
screensavers I saw some clipping and/or z-order problems but I will file
a separate bug report about that.
