No. Both Ubuntu and Windows are installed on the same (and only) hard-drive on 
this laptop. See GPT partitioning info: http://paste2.org/zc4aOfUI

For some reason the EFI boot manager appears to believe that Ubuntu is
on a USB device. In any case, this is an ugly workaround to make dual-
booting work, which I discovered through trial and error.

If I restart Ubuntu now then I boot immediately into Win8 (instead of
the GRUB menu).
