The error appears in Nautilus and in Shotwell but it could easily be
lower down in the OS. I can't say for sure which package has the error.
If there was some way to access a usb disk from the command line, I
could find out but there are no current instructions on how to do that
so my hands are tied. There are many articles online about accessing usb
disks in ubuntu but all seem to reference versions that are long gone.
At this point, from a users perspective, there is no way to access a usb
disk except from the gui. So that's all I can tell you. If it's not
enough, I'll have to change to another distribution unless someone
publishes up to date instructions on accessing usb disks from the
command line.

That's my last word on the problem.
