Then please try to use Intel only mode. Or if you have access to other nvidia card - can you reproduce your problems?
I still think that this might be problem with nouveau and just because other window managers works does not mean that this is metacity problem. Even if it is bug in metacity it is / will be hard to fix if I can not reproduce it. :( I even asked friend if he has laptop with same card... Do you have this problem also with Metacity 3.16? If so it might be related to changes that was needed to add invisible borders. Marco has no invisible borders so it does not have all changes that are in metacity.
