Public bug reported: caja-gksu depends on gksu but gksu is deprecated (PolicyKit is preferred). Also gksu depends on gconf.
The only thing keeping gconf and gksu in the default Ubuntu MATE install is caja-gksu. (Well, except for gdebi but I just pinged ~mvo about that, see https://bugs.debian.org/822596 ) One interesting feature available in the gvfs used by Ubuntu 17.04 and Debian Stretch is the admin:/// URI. I haven't tried on caja but it should work in gtk3 apps. (If you were Googling for it, gvfs calls it the admin backend.) So instead of navigating to the /etc/apt/ directory, you could navigate to admin:///etc/apt/ if your user had admin privileges. ** Affects: ubuntu-mate-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: caja-gksu depends on gksu but gksu is deprecated (PolicyKit is preferred).
