I did not notice the inconsistency with the rest of the comments.

In the meantime I DID manage to disable APST with

sudo nvme set-feature -f 0x0c -v=0 /dev/nvme0

and that seems to have helped (no crash for 9 hours). I'll retry with
2000 now.
