Update: Doing some searching and messing around with the BIOS I have managed to keep my keyboard from stopping. It looks like it has to do with IRQ7 and the CPU going into an idle state. To resolve this on my machine I went into the BIOS, disabled the parallel port (don't know if this is necessary, but I don't have a parallel printer so why not), and enabled PNP OS.
