I just tried Frank Herberg's suggestion of moving the .gtk* files temporarily to a subfolder I created. Restarted OO and it appears to be fixed. Also, so far no problems with Firefox or Thunderbird. Looking at the dates of the files I moved they may have been remnants of a previous installed release.
