I had this problem too.

I have a dual-boot system.  After the last upgrade, my cd-rom would not
mount automatically, and I could no longer read my Windows drives.  (I
was able to force mount the cd-rom.)

I saw this suggestion to install NTFS-config
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/16411, which was on my
system before the upgrade.

I didn't realize that the upgrade would remove NTFS-config.  After
reinstalling NTFS-config, my cd-rom mounted automatically, and I could
read my windows drives again.
