> I wonder if there's any technical reason for dropping those 3 patches?
You reviewers should really make up your minds to setup a common
standard for SRU process. The three patches are for fix build failure
against v6.12 kernel, and certainly Oracular has no v6.12 kernel. The
prior SRU for another package ask me to drop such changes, but now
you're asking for technical reason for the drop.
No! There is no technical reason. It's all about your review policy.
> there's one slight difference in debian/patches/0015-backports-
genetlink-hold-RCU-in-genlmsg_mcast.patch,
That patch is for an kernel API changing fix that has been backported to
stable v6.11.x. It is originated from bug 2083994 because that fix was
first landed to v6.12. But while changes for bug 2083994 were dropped at
backport, and yet this change is mandatory for compiling against v6.11.x
kernels, it's therefore re-targeted to bug 2085453.
> can you please make a case for how this matches the SRU policy or
point us to the corresponding SRU exception?
I don't understand. I've put that in the very first line of the Impact
section "New upstream release. For Oracular, we need it to load -94 FW
API firmware in linux-oem-6.11 kernel."
> Please also consider if a more targeted fix, based on v89, to just fix
the build with more recent kernels would be more appropriate here,
instead of the full v91 backport.
You don't know how it's versioned. You don't know what it means to
support -94 firmware based on core89 release. You don't make suggestion
that cannot work. Please.
