In time: I was able to cause mysql-server postinst script to fail coming
from mariadb, but still need to understand the reporter's setup to make
sure it's not a different bug;

On an Ubuntu 25.04 machine:
- install `mariadb-server`
- install `mysql-server`
- check that the postinst script fails

the failing line seems to be
`mysqld --user=mysql --init-file="$1" --socket="$tmpdir/mysqld.sock"
--pid-file="$tmpdir/mysqld.pid" > /dev/null 2>&1`

Still need more investigation.
