Public bug reported:
After upgrading to Kubuntu 25.10 (kernel 6.17), the mt7925e WiFi driver
fails to respond to incoming ARP requests on boot, making the system
unreachable from other network devices. The network only becomes
accessible after running any command that triggers ARP activity (e.g.,
arping), even if that command itself times out.
Hardware:
- Network controller: MEDIATEK Corp. Device 7925
- Driver: mt7925e
- Interface: wlp129s0 (WiFi)
Symptoms:
- Other devices cannot ping this PC after boot
- Ping returns "Destination Host Unreachable" with "sendmsg: No route to host"
- Once this PC pings another device, bidirectional connectivity is restored
- Running `sudo arping -c 3 -I wlp129s0 -U <ip>` (even though it times out)
fixes the connectivity
Workaround:
Created systemd service running arping on boot, which resolves the issue.
This appears to be an ARP responder initialization bug introduced in
kernel 6.17 or the updated mt7925e driver.
