The version comparison code in the driver makes sure the first 3 numbers
of the version are identical.  Those numbers are the major, minor, and
hotfix version numbers.  The forth number is the build number.

It looks like the Linux driver loads firmware from the file system, from
files below /usr/lib/firmware/intel/avs.  I think that means Ubuntu has
made a bundling error.  They should have updated firmware files before
or together with the kernel update.
