While I'm not using a VM, the network interface I'm using to send the magic packet is still a bridge. Maybe that explains why not everyone is affected. The bridge is bound to an active-backup bond, and the bond uses two network cards, a Broadcom BCM5720 (active) and an Intel I350 (backup).
