I agree. But this is no accident; it's part of Wayland's history and its
current development. Wayland was always primarily designed for
embedded/entertainment systems. So not for the desktop. This explains
why the protocol we are discussing is still experimental despite being
an almost basic feature for a desktop system, while the protocol for
tablets has been merged 10 years ago, and HDR is already in the staging
phase, even though it is not essential on the desktop but is for
entertainment systems.
