Hi Mohit,

Thank you for your response. I discovered “snap enable” since I posted my last
entry, so have been able to make progress. I gave up trying to understand what
happened here, and just
searched my backups for suitable profile directories and tried to recreate
things from two of those. It is years since I got into the internals of
Thunderbird, and I find the documentation rather sketchy, so it has been rather
challenging finding my way through the fog. Added to that Snap seems an
unnecessary complication which I don’t understand in much depth. Anyhow I have
now reached the point where I seem to have recreated my treasure chest of many
years of emails, though I wouldn’t be surprised if some got lost along the way.

One thing that puzzles me though – Troubleshooting Information shows
Version 140.8.0esr, Build ID 20260223162343, and Application Binary
/snap/thunderbird/995/usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin, but the
profile directory is in ~/.thunderbird. Why is it there rather than
being in a snap subdirectory? Will it cause problems being where it is?

Thanks very much,
Peter
