The conflict was caused by another software source that must have been added 
while installing cuDNN from https://developer.nvidia.com. I can not tell which 
source it was exactly. I removed the source, did some cleanup and installed the 
driver ubuntu shipped. The only problem here was, that sudo ubuntu-drivers 
install installed the 535 version. This one was not working with NVIDIA GeForce 
GTX 1050 Ti.
When rebooting it didn't find the second monitor and the resolution was to low. 
So I manually installed version 580.
