Yeah, this sounds like a particular generator misbehaving. Can you
please share the output of:
ls -l /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/ /etc/systemd/system-
generators/ /run/systemd/system-generators/
as suggested above? Can you also check which other packages were
upgraded in this unattended-upgrades run? If this is the first time you
hit this issue on a given machine, it's possible that another package
update is responsible.
