Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 26.04 (Xubuntu with XFCE), Firefox Snap cannot
open .eml files with Thunderbird. The "Open with..." dialog appears
every time, and the choice is not remembered.

The issue appears to be related to xdg-desktop-portal. The following
error is logged when attempting to open files:

Backend call failed: L'interface «
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.FileChooser » n'existe pas pour l'objet à
l'emplacement /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop

This suggests that the FileChooser backend is not available, despite
xdg-desktop-portal-gtk being installed and running.

System details:
- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Xubuntu with XFCE)
- xdg-desktop-portal 1.21.0+ds-1ubuntu4
- xdg-desktop-portal-gtk 1.15.3 (running)
- Firefox Snap
- Thunderbird installed as .deb in /opt/thunderbird/

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Xubuntu 26.04 with Firefox Snap and Thunderbird .deb.
2. Click on a .eml file link in Firefox.
3. Observe the "Open with..." dialog appearing every time.

Expected behavior:
The .eml file should open automatically in Thunderbird.

Actual behavior:
The dialog appears every time and the choice is not remembered.

Additional notes:
The file chooser for uploading attachments (FileChooser.OpenFile) works
correctly in Firefox. The issue is specific to OpenURI (opening files with
external applications).

The bug #2142274 was marked as "Won't Fix", but the issue persists on my
system. I am opening this new report to document the specific case on
Xubuntu 26.04 with XFCE.

** Affects: xdg-desktop-portal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
