I can confirm the 50.1-0ubuntu2.5 version fixes the issues for me. 🎉
## How to test-upgrade
Note for others testing this, I had to manually force-upgrade multiple
packages:
```
sudo apt install {libmutter-18-0,mutter,gir1.2-mutter-18}=50.1-0ubuntu2.5
```
If you install only mutter/libmutter you will end up removing `gdm3`
among others, breaking your entire system.
With the above command line no adverse effects happened on my system.
## Relevant config
The wm.preferences related to this issue:
```
$ gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences | grep -Ei
'focus|raise'
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise false
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise-delay 500
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'sloppy'
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows 'smart'
org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences raise-on-click true
```
## What I've tested
I've tested the expected behavior having multiple windows that accept
keyboard input (signal-desktop, terminal (ptyxis), firefox),
1. starting keyboard input in Signal (by left-mouse click on the message input
box),
2. halfway, switch to the terminal **using keyboard only** (Alt-Tab),
performing input in that window, focus correctly stays in terminal, while
mouse-cursor is untouched above the Signal window
3. touching/moving the mouse *minimally* (still above the Signal window)
correctly refocuses the Signal window for input (without raising)
Several more complicated iterations including using keyboard to switch
back focus and focusing a background window overlapped by another
window, all seemed to be fine as it used to work in Ubuntu 24.04LTS
