Additional system freeze on October 24, 2026 Another complete system freeze occurred at approximately 20:04 CEST, again running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with kernel 6.8.0-147-generic.
EFI PStore recovered two kernel Oops records from the affected boot. Both Oops records show a kernel NULL pointer dereference at address 0x45, with the identical instruction pointer: RIP: free_unref_page_list+0x2ed/0x420 The first Oops occurred on CPU 6 during page-fault handling and memory management (wp_page_copy, folio_add_lru). The second occurred on CPU 3 during memory release (exit_mmap, free_pages_and_swap_cache). The kernel journal additionally reports multiple BUG: Bad page state messages and subsequent soft lockups involving sh and kcompactd0. Several user-space segmentation faults (stat, cut, gedit) were also recorded earlier during the same boot. Unlike the October 18 crash in update_blocked_averages(), this incident occurred in the memory-management subsystem. A common underlying cause has not yet been established. Both recovered EFI PStore dumps are attached for investigation. ** Attachment added: "kernel-oops-20261024.zip" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2171338/+attachment/6012208/+files/kernel-oops-20261024.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2171338 Title: Kernel panic in update_blocked_averages() on Ubuntu 24.04, linux 6.8.0-147-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2171338/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
