While reviewing the previously collected pstore logs, I noticed a potentially relevant pattern that may help narrow down the underlying issue.
Before the kernel panic occurred, gedit repeatedly crashed inside the same GTK library (libgtk-3.so.0.2409.32). The recorded sequence was: - [222.008261] – gedit: segfault at 0xf1 - [5070.588492] – gedit: segfault at 0xf1 - [13621.015160] – gedit: segfault at 0xf1 - [13980.240670] – gedit: segfault at 0x1a - [14145.102693] – gedit: segfault at 0xf1 - [16906.421869] – Kernel oops: invalid opcode in update_blocked_averages+0x111/0x300 - [16906.674732] – Kernel panic: Fatal exception in interrupt All five gedit crashes occurred in libgtk-3.so.0.2409.32, with several showing identical instruction sequences at the fault location. The subsequent kernel oops occurred on CPU 1 in the scheduler's update_blocked_averages() function, while executing in interrupt context (swapper/1). I have also observed further gedit crashes involving the same GTK library during later system sessions. I am not suggesting that gedit itself is responsible for crashing the kernel. However, the repeated userspace segmentation faults preceding a fatal kernel exception may indicate an underlying problem affecting memory integrity or another shared subsystem. The temporal relationship does not establish causality, but I believe this pattern is worth investigating, particularly given the recurring kernel crashes and instability affecting multiple unrelated userspace applications. The system is running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with kernel 6.8.0-147-generic on an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G (Raven Ridge/Vega graphics). I am adding this observation to the existing report rather than opening a separate issue, as a possible connection cannot currently be ruled out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2171338 Title: Kernel panic in update_blocked_averages() on Ubuntu 24.04, linux 6.8.0-147-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2171338/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
