Taking a deeper look:

hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket
ACPI seems to be running fine, but what I can observe is:
- There is no indication of battery and/or power cable connected at the panel
(using Xubuntu)
- When left disconnected from the power, battery will drain out and power off
completely (not suspending or hibernating)
