Kyle Rankin, do you really think there's a need for separate permanent
and temporary settings?

I was thinking that hitting the brightness keys should change the value
in /apps/gnome-power-manager/backlight/brightness_{ac,battery}, and then
in order to get back to the setting you had before, you would actually
have to change it back, either with the keys or with the sliders in
gnome-power-preferences (which would now do exactly the same thing).
That seems like the most simple and intuitive solution to me. I think
this is what Jean-Christophe Baptiste and others were suggesting too. Do
you have a problem with it?
