I have now had time to test the Hardy Heron 8.04 Beta on both of my machines with ATI video cards. The situation has improved since last time in the sense that it will now boot without using safemode, but it doesn't detect the correct resolution of my Hansol 18'' monitors. This can be corrected using the gnome screen resolution tool, but there is still a serious problem with the usplash and login screen. It seems they are both at such a large resolution that the monitor cannot display them properly, the image is distorted and very dark blue. This happened with both machines both with a live CD and an installed system. I could not find a way to adjust the resolution of the usplash screen or the login screen.
